Thank you to everyone that applied to join the PBS’ Digital Media Advisory Council (DMAC). We received many strong applicants this year from across system, representing a growing diversity in skill sets. With only a few seats open this year, we are excited to announce the new incoming members of the DMAC that will help the system work and grow together on multiplatform projects.
PBS Digital strives to create an advisory body that is representative of the entire system, having members from all corners of the US, every type of licensee, and various station sizes. As members rotate off the DMAC, we look at the knowledge and experience we are losing, as well as the changing system landscape, and try to find the appropriate people and skill sets to fill the roles. Sometimes we’re looking for a direct 1-to-1 replacement, mainly making sure we have a balance of station location and size. Often we’re looking for an understanding of digital trends in media, influence in the public media system, or an innovative quality that will help move stations and PBS Digital forward.
This year we’re excited to welcome the following three new members, as well as a new producer liaison member. Unlike open station seats on the DMAC, the producer liaison role is a position appointed by PBS Digital to help ensure producer and producing station viewpoints are part of the overall DMAC conversation.
We look forward to working with the new members, and add their unique expertise to the work of the Council.
Andrew MacCartney, Vice President of Education and Digital Media at Georgia Public Broadcasting
Andrew MacCartney is the vice president of education and digital media at Georgia Public Broadcasting. He serves on the Board of Governors of the George L. Smith II World Congress Center Authority. He also serves on committees for Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia World Congress Center Finance, and Food & Beverage Review. Andrew is an alumni of Leadership Georgia, program chair for the 2016 class, and is a current Board Trustee. Andrew is an active volunteer with the Sandy Plains Baseball Association, Pack 1714 of the Atlanta Area Council Boy Scouts of America, and Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club.He is an alumni of Georgia Southern University. MacCartney and his wife, Teresa, have two children. They reside in Marietta.
James Davie, Director of Programming & Digital Media at KUED 7
James Davie is KUED’s Director of Programming and Digital Media. He brings an audience- and content-focused approach to his role in supervising the station’s web, social media, and online video efforts, as well as broadcast programming. James has been with KUED since 1999, where he began as a traffic associate, fresh from graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in Mass Communication. He then worked his way up to Program Manager, and later Director of Programming. When KUED created its Digital Media Department just a couple of years ago, James was chosen to lead the new endeavor. He is a former president of the Public Television Programmers' Association (PTPA), and is currently serving a second term as board member of that organization. He has also served on the PBS Programming Advisory Council, and Program Council of the National Educational Television Association.
Maribel Lopez, Digital Account and Partner Manager at Twin Cities PBS
After an internship at Iowa Public Television in the summer of 2010, Maribel ventured to Minnesota upon accepting a position with Twin Cities PBS (TPT) where she helped bring several national PBS projects to fruition including “Slavery by Another Name” and “Constitution USA with Peter Sagal.” After a short time with TPT’s marketing department in 2013, she transitioned to Rewire, TPT’s national initiative to reach the next generation of public media enthusiasts. She has recently taken on the role of Digital Account and Partner Manager for Rewire and Next Avenue, TPT’s website for older adults, leading station relations efforts, managing partner projects, communications and outreach. This past year, Maribel participated on one of TPT’s strategic planning committees, serving as a lead author for the station’s young adult audience initiatives. She’s passionate about reimagining the future of public media, enjoys thinking big, brainstorming with colleagues and learning new things.
Chris Hastings, Executive Producer at WORLD Channel, Producer Liaison
A 15-year veteran at WGBH, Hastings began with the children television’s program ZOOM and eventually evolved to his New England Emmy award-winning work at the WGBH Lab, an innovative incubator for up-and-coming filmmakers. He joined the WORLD Channel in 2011 as interim managing producer. Hastings is now the Executive Producer and Editorial Manager of Content for WORLD Channel and WORLDChannel.org. He oversees content development, acquisition, and production, as well as executing the day-to-day operations of the channel. As Executive Producer he is co-curator of the award-winning documentary series “America Reframed,” and “Local, USA” and “DOC WORLD.”
