Seven Ways to Engage Your Audiences With Food Content This Holiday Season

Here at PBS Food, our Thanksgiving season kicks off tomorrow! Can you believe it? As the weather turns chilly (in theory, at least) and the holidays approach, more and more people get back in the kitchen and cook again. PBS Food sees a big rise in engagement during the holidays and we want you to take advantage of this opportunity with your audiences. We’ve compiled seven ways that you can leverage PBS Food content to reach your social audience:

1. Thanksgiving Countdown

Starting on November 1, PBS Food will be continuing our annual Thanksgiving Checklist Countdown. Each day in November leading to the big day, we will share one simple task to prepare for hosting a Thanksgiving dinner. The idea is to break down a big Thanksgiving event into bite-size pieces to make it less daunting for the holiday hosts and hostesses. Each post has two accompanying images – one with the PBS Food logo and one suitable for co-branding with a station logo. Each day’s task is set to a specific day, but you can jump in at any point leading up to Thanksgiving!

2. Thanksgiving Daily Recipes

In addition to the “Recipe of the Week” content in the weekly suggested tweets and posts that goes to stations, PBS Food wants you to be able to superserve the foodies in your audience with daily Thanksgiving-themed recipes. Each day has a featured recipe with a link and suggested language leading up to Turkey Day. We also have included photos for each recipes, should you want to use them on Instagram or as a photo post on Facebook. All the recipes and photos are completely cleared for use on any platform. 3. Black Friday Gift Guides for Foodies

Each year PBS Food updates its list of Black Friday gift ideas for foodies – we have lists for all kinds of foodies, from beginners and college students to grillmasters and newlyweds.

4. Cross-posted Videos

PBS Food will be natively uploading any Thanksgiving and holiday-related videos that we have rights to share this holiday season. If you haven’t already whitelisted your station’s Facebook page with PBS Food, this is the perfect opportunity. 5. Bentomatic

The Food Bentomatic is an effective way to leverage food content on your site that is powered by the PBS Food team that includes holiday pages and highlights broadcast priorities within the food and cooking genre. If you already have this Bentomatic assigned, you will find the collection automatically updated throughout the year. To have the Food Bentomatic assigned to your site, submit your request via the Digital Support Portal. If it is your first time submitting a ticket, then follow the selection “What do you need assistance with?” then select Bento Admin and “Type of Issue” will be Bentomatic Access.

6. Daily December Holiday Recipes and Posts [Available in Box Soon]

While Thanksgiving is the ultimate food holiday, PBS Food will continue to deliver suggested posts and language for daily recipes, tips and other posts throughout December that will cover Christmas, Hannukah and New Year’s.


7. Holiday Hubs

Stations who do not plan to adopt the Food Bentomatic on their site can promote the individual holiday hub pages on PBS Food which highlight similar content pieces that are promoted in the Bentomatic. The hub pages for ThanksgivingHanukkahChristmas, and New Year’s Eve feature all of our seasonal content including recipes, videos, planning tips, gift guides, and more. Furthermore, we encourage any station with holiday content to reach out to the PBS Food team for promotion on these hub pages and/or our social channels.
