PBS Digital Studios' investments in station productions over the last year were meant to give stations the necessary tools, training and funding in order to produce high quality and sustainable online video programs. The goal was to create content at the local-level that could build large and highly engaged local and national audiences. Through these targeted investments we also hoped to encourage larger cultural changes in online video production at the station-level that might trickle down throughout the system. Over the next year we will continue to invest in these proven tools, training and funding, but will also begin to shift our station portfolio toward larger co-productions. In this conversation we will discuss what we have learned about crowdfunding as a means of fundraising, DSLR equipment and best practices for stations producing digital video content.
