A few weeks ago, we announced the launch of two new crowdfunding campaigns on Indiegogo. These campaigns were unique in that PBS Digital Studios agreed to match all the funds raised, up to $10,000. With a number of hours left in each of these campaigns, we're excited to share that both campaigns have met and exceeded their goals. Texas Tech Public Broadcasting had a goal of raising $10,000 to continue and expand their web series, 24 Frames. With 39 hours left in their campaign (at this very moment), they've already raised $29,660!
According to Paul Hunton, KTTZ's Production Director and man behind the Indiegogo campaign, the campaign was successful because of the vast and varied support 24 Frames receives from its broadcast market.
"I think people were excited about a different approach to the same material," Hunton said. "Taking the next step and offering the show live to an audience would be an intriguing jump in the show's evolution. We also thought it was a great opportunity to find partnering underwriters to include in both the broadcast and live version of the show."
This was KTTZ's first crowdfunding campaign and, based on its wild success, Hunto said the station will definitely consider doing more in the future.
"The platform of crowdfunding is a new way that public media can reach new audiences and it's exciting to be a part of it," Hunton said.
If your station is considering a crowdfunding campaign, Hunton has a few words of wisdom to pass along,
- Get everyone on board, from development to marketing, and from the top down make it an all inclusive project with your station."
- Don't fret about the outcome. We just poured our passion into it as a station, and the results were more than we could have expected.
