KQED is now showcasing some of the best documentary films about California, made by independent filmmakers—Truly CA: Our State, Our Stories and Truly CA Shorts.
From San Francisco's rich Chicano and Mexican influences, to a look at the transformation of the Mojave Desert's Salton Sea, from popular resort to an ecological disaster, Truly CA brings to life true stories from around the Golden State.
Truly CA: Our State, Our Stories is a television broadcast series airing on Sunday evenings monthly on KQED, a time slot KQED has reserved for independent works. For those of you not living in California, however, you can catch these films on KQED Arts' YouTube channel.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, their most recent film highlights the origins and history of lowriding in San Diego and the borderlands are chronicled in Everything Comes from the Streets, including the creative men and women who pioneered and shaped the unique car customizing tradition among Chicano and Mexican communities.
