Black History Month Content and Resources for 2018

Posted by Samantha Elander on

This year, the BCC is asking its audiences, “Who are the history makers in your life?” We are encouraging users to tag and share stories about people have or are currently making a positive impact in their community. They can share personal stories, photos, local articles, relevant events, historical moments, and even museum exhibits.

Each of the four weeks will have a specific theme and distinct call to action, connected to broadcast and streaming priorities. These themes cover art and music, community leaders, motivational women and education.

In alignment with these themes, the BCC will release text GIFs to encourage users to join the conversation.

Just a reminder, PBS will be using a new hashtag for Black History Month to align with the standard PBS format: #BlackHistoryPBS. We will continue to monitor a range of accounts and hashtags (including #MyBlackHistory) to identify content to share from the BCC channels.

With this in mind, we hope your social teams will help us reach out to your local communities!

Please reach out to Taryn Stewart (tijackson@pbs.org) and Samantha Elander (scelander@pbs.org) to sign up for weekly social updates.
