PBS TechCon 2015 Preview: Digital Track

techconsquare15.jpg Historically, PBS TechCon has been known for being the key meeting of the year for public television’s broadcast engineers. But as digital encoding and IP delivery mash everything together, the distinction between “broadcast” and “digital / interactive” blurs.

PBS Digital is excited to announce that PBS TechCon 2015 will feature a track of sessions designed for station digital-media leaders – or other attendees who simply want to learn more about how PBS and member stations are using interactive, digital and social-media tools to engage audiences, produce new and different content, and support station goals.

To underscore the brand new digital track, PBS Digital SVP Ira Rubenstein will present a keynote which highlights PBS Digital strategy, and how it supports PBS' ongoing effort to best serve member stations and their communities.

This track will dive deeper into and build-off of the strategy PBS senior team members will be presenting throughout the conference. More specifics on the digital-media track will be able in the coming weeks, but look for sessions that explore:

  • How some stations live-streaming events to boost reach and raise money
  • The pros and cons of different content-management systems (and what to say if someone says “Let’s build a custom one!” Hint: “No, let’s not.”)
  • Deep dives into major PBS product projects, analytics and social-media best practices.

As an added benefit, PBS Digital will also be providing a digital tech lounge where stations can receive demos, chat with PBS staff, and of course, recharge their devices.

PBS TechCon will take place April 8-10 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. We’ll publish more information here as it becomes available; you can also find details at here.
